You will need: eggs, water, flour, salt, butter, green olives, orange and yellow peppers, Gouda cheese, milk, powdered milk, sesame seeds
Instructions :
- First make the starter in a bowl add 3/4 cups of water
- Add 1/3 cup of flour
- Mix the flour and water together until they are well combined
- Transfer the mixture to a small sauce pan and cook on medium low heat until it thickens and turns into a paste
- Set the pace aside until it cools off completely
- To the stand mixers bowl add 4 cups of flour
- Add one packet of yeast, 1 tablespoon
- Add 2 tablespoons of powdered milk
- Add 1 teaspoon of salt
- Add 1/4 cup of butter
- Add one egg
- Add 1 cup of warm milk
- Now add the starter paste
- Start mixing on low speed
- Increase speed to medium high and need though for seven minutes
- When the dough is ready, massage the top of the door with very little oil so it doesn’t dry out
- Cover the bowl and set it aside in a warm spot for an hour to allow the dough time to rise and double in size
- After one hour deflate the dough and transfer it to your working surface
- Divide the dough into desired size portions
- Make sure that you cover the portion of the dough that you’re not working with with a clean towel
- I doubled the recipe for the first batch I stuffed with our favorite pizza toppings which are: black and green olives, sausage, yellow and orange peppers, shredded Gouda cheese
- Start spreading each dough portion by hand
- Arrange the stuff doughballs in a greased pan. Cover and set aside for half an hour
- Here’s a different way of rolling the dough into a rectangular long roll shape and stuffing it
- With a sharp knife make some slashes on top
- Cover with a towel and set aside for half an hour
- In a bowl add 1/4 cup of milk to an egg yolk and give them a good mix together
- Brush the surfaces of the dough with the milk egg mixture
- Add some sesame seeds on top if you’d like, I did
- Bake in a 425°F preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes
- If you choose to make long rolls with the second batch of dough:
- Divide the dough
- Cover it and let it rest for half an hour
- Spread the dough by hand
- Brush the top with the egg and milk mixture and bake on 425°F for 10 to 15 minutes
- Enjoy!
